Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Suresh Gopi, has fiercely defended his ‘Kalungu Souhruda Samvadam’ public interactions, stating unequivocally that he will not be silenced or intimidated by threats. Speaking at the inauguration of MP C. Sadanandan’s office in Kannur on Sunday, October 12, 2025, Mr. Gopi asserted that his public dialogues embody the “purity of democracy” and likened them to a precise ‘surgical strike’ aimed at uncovering truth and ensuring transparency in public life.
“These discussions benefit everyone involved. Both the speaker and the listener require political purity and a pure mind,” he explained, adding that the critics are clearly “afraid because something truly genuine has started to happen.”
Responding directly to Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leaders M.V. Jayarajan and P. Jayarajan, who had voiced strong criticism against Mr. Sadanandan’s nomination to the Rajya Sabha, Mr. Gopi declared that Sadanandan’s entry marks a significant stepping stone for the BJP in Kannur. He highlighted that “this moment, particularly given Kannur’s unique political landscape, was made possible only through the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
Taking a clear jab at the CPI(M) leaders, he commented, “The Jayarajan brothers were visibly upset and harbored fears that Mr. Sadanandan would indeed bring development to Kannur.” He clarified, “This isn’t just jealousy; it’s anxiety.”
Criticism from CPI(M) Leaders
Previously, CPI(M) leaders had lambasted Mr. Sadanandan’s nomination; M.V. Jayarajan had controversially compared him to Pragya Singh Thakur, while P. Jayarajan branded him a “disgraced Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader.” In his rebuttal, Mr. Gopi stated that the decision to nominate Mr. Sadanandan was made with the intention of bringing the “skills and spirit” of the Modi government to Kerala, describing Mr. Sadanandan as a “prime example of Karma.”
He also expressed his optimistic hope that Mr. Sadanandan’s MP office would soon transform into a Union Minister’s office, going so far as to say, “I would be genuinely happy if Mr. Sadanandan were made a Union Minister instead of me.”
Regarding his acting career, the Minister confirmed his intention to continue working in films.
‘Words Deliberately Distorted’
Reiterating his stance, Mr. Gopi stated that his words are being intentionally misrepresented. “Now, whatever is said is twisted. Everyone gets upset when we use the word ‘Praja’ (people). What is inherently wrong with saying ‘Praja’? They should first truly understand what Prajatantra (democracy) means,” he emphasized.
He further added that a “surgical strike” on these misinterpretations of his earlier remarks would soon follow. “Don’t try to scare me. I cannot be a politician who suppresses his pain and anger. I want to live as a human being, not merely as a politician,” he concluded.
