A somber incident unfolded in Virudhunagar on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, when a fire erupted at the Divya Pyrotechnics fireworks manufacturing unit in Gangarseval, under the Alangulam police station jurisdiction. The tragic blaze resulted in the death of B. Gowri, a 50-year-old Sri Lankan national, who was unfortunately charred. Additionally, five other workers sustained injuries in the inferno.
Police officials confirmed that Ms. Gowri resided at the Sri Lankan Tamil Rehabilitation Camp located in Thulukkankurichi.
Among those injured, 53-year-old S. Kalimuthu is reported to be in critical condition, suffering from 100% burns. Another victim, 21-year-old K. Meghala, sustained 40% burns.
The other individuals who suffered injuries in this unfortunate accident were identified as V. Sivaranjani (39), Vijayalakshmi (60), and K. Mariammal (40).
All the injured victims have been hospitalized at a government facility in Sivakasi for treatment. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was sparked by friction occurring during the handling of chemicals used in the production of fireworks.
The Alangulam police department has launched a thorough investigation into the incident to ascertain further details and responsible parties.
