Telangana’s Health Minister, C. Damodar Raja Narasimha, has formally requested the Central Government to approve the establishment of an All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) within the state. He passionately argued that Telangana is an ideal location due to its extensive reserves of medicinal plants and a centuries-old commitment to holistic healing traditions.
In a detailed letter sent to Union Minister for AYUSH, Prataprao Jadhav, the Health Minister put forward Telangana’s case for one of the ten planned national-level Ayurveda institutes. These prestigious institutions are slated for development across India by the year 2030, and Telangana aims to be a key recipient.
Highlighting the state’s natural wealth, Minister Narasimha underscored that Telangana’s forests are rich with diverse plant species known for their medicinal benefits. He further detailed the state’s ongoing commitment to enhancing and promoting traditional medicine, citing the recent appointment of approximately 800 yoga instructors and the comprehensive modernization efforts underway at AYUSH hospitals throughout Telangana.
The Minister emphasized, “AYUSH practices have been an integral part of Telangana’s cultural and healthcare traditions for centuries.” He also provided a firm assurance that the state government is fully prepared to allocate the required land and infrastructure to facilitate the institute’s establishment.
To reinforce this appeal, Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare, Sangeetha Satyanarayana, and Director of the Department of AYUSH, Srikanth Babu Perugu, personally met with the Union Minister in Hyderabad on Saturday, October 11. They formally presented the detailed request letter, underscoring the state’s strong desire for the institute.
