Authorities investigating the tragic rape and murder of a young girl in Mysuru have uncovered a disturbing detail: the suspect, apprehended in Kollegal, had a previous conviction for attempted sexual assault or molestation.
The victim, a young girl from a nomadic family in Kalaburagi, was in Mysuru with her relatives for the Dasara festival, selling balloons and toys. They had set up temporary tents near Doddakere Maidan in the city, where they slept.
On Wednesday night, the girl went to sleep with her parents and other family members. However, in the early hours of Thursday, she was discovered missing, prompting an immediate search by her family.
Later that morning, her body was tragically discovered near Doddakere Maidan. Police quickly launched an investigation, and CCTV footage played a crucial role in identifying and tracking down the suspect, Karthik.
Police Commissioner Seema Latkar confirmed on Friday that Karthik was arrested in Kollegal. During his transport back to Mysuru, he attempted to escape and attacked the officers. The police initially fired warning shots into the air, but when Karthik continued his assault with a bottle, they were forced to shoot him in the legs to subdue him. Both the injured officers and Karthik are currently receiving medical attention at K.R. Hospital in Mysuru.
Commissioner Latkar also revealed that Karthik had an existing case against him and was out on bail. He identified himself as a resident of Siddalingapura and worked as a cleaner on private buses. Investigations into this horrific incident are ongoing.
