In a significant breakthrough, the Chittoor urban police force announced on Friday, October 10, 2025, the arrest of a notorious individual linked to numerous house thefts throughout the district and neighboring states. The apprehended suspect has been identified as H. Hanumanthappa, a 27-year-old resident hailing from the Bellary district of Karnataka.
Authorities confirmed that the arrest is directly related to a high-profile theft incident that occurred on September 30, 2025. During this incident, a residence in Chittoor’s Ramnagar Colony was targeted, resulting in the loss of gold ornaments exceeding ₹25 lakh in value, ₹2 lakh in cash, and a two-wheeler. Hanumanthappa had gained a reputation for his unique modus operandi, often operating alone and seeking refuge by sleeping in open fields after committing his crimes. He was a wanted man, with active cases and warrants extending across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.
Following the complaint filed by the victim, Chittoor police initiated a comprehensive investigation. Employing advanced technical surveillance methods and coordinating closely with law enforcement agencies in other states, they successfully tracked and intercepted the accused. Hanumanthappa was taken into custody along the Bengaluru Bypass Road. Subsequently, a Chittoor court has ordered his remand to judicial custody, marking a decisive step in bringing his criminal activities to a halt.
