NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha recently highlighted how the latest GST reforms are genuinely benefiting everyday citizens, describing the “Super GST – Super Savings” initiative as a beacon of hope for improving their financial well-being.
During an awareness rally held at the Old Government General Hospital (GGH) in Vijayawada on Thursday, October 9, Collector Lakshmisha proudly announced that “Super GST 2.0” has led to substantial reductions in tax burdens across numerous sectors.
He provided compelling examples: life insurance, once subject to an 18% GST, is now entirely tax-exempt. Likewise, health and family insurance policies also enjoy full exemptions. Critically, essential life-saving medicines, previously taxed at 12%, are now completely tax-free. Furthermore, the GST on crucial medical equipment and diagnostic kits has been significantly lowered from 12% to just 5%.
Joint Collector S. Ilakkiya added that comprehensive awareness programs are underway, reaching communities from the village level upwards. These campaigns are actively educating people about the positive impact of these reforms, with events hosted in hospitals, Rythu Seva Kendras, anganwadis, educational institutions, and other key public spaces.
Echoing these sentiments, GST Vijayawada Joint Commissioner S. Prashant Kumar and District Medical and Health Officer M. Suhasini specifically underscored the monumental advantages these GST adjustments bring to the healthcare sector. They confirmed that the GST on common medicines has been slashed from 12% to 5%, a rate now consistently applied to all testing kits as well.
The event also saw the presence of key figures including Sadhu Prasad, president of the NTR District Chemists and Druggists Association, and secretary D.V.R. Saikumar, among other distinguished guests.
