The Catholic Nasrani Association has issued a strong plea to both the Union and State governments, urging them to enact comprehensive Church legislation. This proposed law aims to ensure complete transparency in how Christian churches collect and utilize their financial resources.
During a press briefing in Kottayam, association leaders, spearheaded by M.P. George, emphasized the urgent need for governments to formulate specific legislation to tackle these critical matters. As a crucial step, the association will host a symposium on November 8. This event is expected to bring together prominent legal experts and respected Church leaders for a vital discussion. Following this, association officials plan to formally present their request to the government.
The association has voiced significant concerns regarding alleged financial irregularities and a lack of transparency within certain dioceses of the Syro-Malabar Church, particularly concerning the misuse of contributions from devout followers. Furthermore, they are advocating for revisions to canonical laws to clearly define leadership responsibilities within the Church structure. To further push for these essential changes, the association intends to organize protest rallies at various diocesan headquarters after the upcoming symposium.
