In a recent address on Friday, October 10, 2025, BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagenthran publicly lambasted the DMK government for its failure to honor a significant election promise. Nagenthran specifically called out the ruling party for not introducing a monthly billing cycle for electricity tariffs, a pledge made during the 2021 Assembly elections.
Taking to the social media platform X, Mr. Nagenthran reminded the public that the DMK, during its time in opposition, vehemently opposed any increases in electricity tariffs. However, he pointed out that since assuming power, the DMK government has not only hiked tariffs on multiple occasions but has also completely abandoned its commitment to a monthly billing system, which was initially touted as a measure to alleviate the financial strain on consumers.
Furthermore, Nagenthran accused the government of neglecting to implement crucial Central schemes designed to boost solar power generation. He also claimed that the State government has made no substantial efforts to enhance Tamil Nadu’s own electricity production capabilities, instead relying heavily on purchasing power from private companies and subsequently passing the resultant financial burden directly onto the populace.
He emphasized that the current bi-monthly billing system itself is not being properly managed. Nagenthran concluded his criticism by stating, “This clearly demonstrates that the DMK lacks both the integrity to fulfill its election promises and the competence to effectively manage existing procedures.”
