The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has formally demanded a comprehensive report from the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of Chandigarh regarding the allegations of caste discrimination. These serious claims were made by IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar in a note found after his passing.
In a notice issued recently, the Commission stated it had taken immediate action based on widespread media reports and would be thoroughly investigating the matter.
The NCSC has given the Chief Secretary and DGP seven days to submit their report. The Commission emphasized that failure to comply within the given timeframe could result in the invocation of its Constitutional powers, including the issuance of summons for direct appearance.
A “final note” recovered from IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar’s Chandigarh residence, following his death, reportedly detailed profound “mental harassment and humiliation” he allegedly endured from “senior officers” over several years.
