A Kadapa Court recently delivered a significant verdict, sentencing a 29-year-old man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and a hefty fine of ₹1.7 lakh. The conviction comes after he was found guilty of his wife’s murder, a tragic case rooted in persistent dowry harassment.
The accused, identified as Rauthu Babu, also 29, from Dinnepalli village in Annamayya district’s Lakkireddypalli mandal, had married Rauthu Savitri, 21, from the same village. Sadly, Savitri endured severe harassment for additional dowry, a torment that tragically culminated in her suspicious death.
The quest for justice began on October 9, 2021, when Savitri’s father bravely filed a complaint at the Lakkireddypalli police station. Authorities swiftly registered a case under crucial sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) – 498(A) for cruelty by husband or relatives and 304(B) for dowry death – alongside Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. A meticulous investigation followed, leading to the filing of a comprehensive charge-sheet in court.
Following a thorough and diligent trial, Judge G.S. Ramesh Kumar of the VII Additional District Judge Court, Kadapa, pronounced Rauthu Babu guilty of his heinous crime. The court’s sentence includes seven years of rigorous imprisonment, underscoring the gravity of the offense, coupled with the substantial fine.
Annamayya Superintendent of Police (SP) Dheeraj Kunubilli lauded the exemplary work of the entire team involved. He specifically commended the investigation unit, the dedicated prosecution staff, and the court personnel for their seamless cooperation and unwavering commitment that ultimately ensured justice was served for the victim and her grieving family.
