In a momentous ceremony held on Thursday, C.V. Ganesan, the Minister for Labour and Skill Development, officially inaugurated the construction of a vital check dam across the Gedilam River. The ambitious project is situated at Kamatchipettai within the Cuddalore district and promises significant benefits for the local community.
This state-of-the-art check dam, approved with an estimated budget of ₹37 crore, represents a substantial investment in the region’s water infrastructure.
Officials from the Water Resources Department (WRD) have outlined the impressive specifications of the new structure: it will stretch 205 meters in length and feature robust flood protection walls extending 850 meters. Beyond its structural integrity, the primary goals of the check dam are to dramatically enhance the groundwater table on both sides of the river, directly supporting 234 borewells, and to ensure stable irrigation for an expansive 3,446 acres of agricultural land.
The event was also attended by Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar, underscoring the collaborative effort behind this important initiative.
