Four landmines and a single mortar shell recently detonated near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir. Thankfully, officials confirmed that these incidents caused no casualties.
One of the explosions, involving a buried mortar shell, occurred on Thursday morning in Sagra village, Mankote area, as an earth-mover was performing excavation work. The excavator driver fortunately escaped the blast unharmed.
Authorities promptly dispatched a police team to investigate the incident. It appears the mortar shell was a remnant of previous cross-border shelling that had remained unexploded. Separately, on Wednesday, four landmines were deliberately detonated by a bomb disposal squad in the Balakote area.
These landmines had become dislodged from the anti-infiltration obstacle system, likely due to recent heavy rainfall. The controlled explosions, carried out by the bomb disposal unit, also resulted in no damage or harm.
