Mumbai’s crucial Metro Line-3 is now fully operational across its entire 33.5-kilometer span, connecting Cuffe Parade to Aarey JVLR. This momentous achievement comes after the corridor’s final phase was recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Early morning on Thursday, the Aqua Line, as it’s popularly known, saw its first full-length trains depart from both terminal stations at 5:55 a.m., marking a new chapter in the city’s public transport system.
The Prime Minister had officially launched the last section of Mumbai Metro Line-3, specifically between Acharya Atre Chowk and Cuffe Parade, on Wednesday. This event was celebrated as a significant leap forward in Mumbai’s urban development.
Prior to this, the Aqua Line services were partially operational, limited to the route between Acharya Atre Chowk and Aarey JVLR. With the completion of the 10.99-kilometer ‘Phase 2B,’ Mumbai now boasts its first entirely underground metro corridor, stretching from the bustling South Mumbai locale of Cuffe Parade all the way to Aarey JVLR in the western suburbs.
Commenting on the development, Prime Minister Modi shared on X that “Phase 2B of the Mumbai Metro Line-3 is a significant enhancement to Mumbai’s infrastructure. Metro connectivity is essential for a city’s growth. This project will have a positive impact on the lives of the people of Mumbai.”
