In the recently concluded Hukkeri elections held on Wednesday, Mahaveer Nilajagi was elected as the new president of the Rural Electricity Cooperative Society. Joining him in a key leadership role, Ajit Munnoli secured the position of vice-president. Both Nilajagi and Munnoli are staunch supporters of Ramesh Katti, a former Member of Parliament and a prominent BJP leader from Hukkeri. Their success came as they contested the polls as part of the ‘self-respect panel,’ a formidable alliance formed by Ramesh Katti himself and former Minister and esteemed Congress leader A.B. Patil. This coalition achieved a sweeping victory, winning all 15 seats in a fiercely contested battle against a rival panel spearheaded by former MP Anna Saheb Jolle and the influential Jarkiholi brothers. Mahaveer Nilajagi represents the Jain community, while Ajit Munnoli is a respected leader from the Lingayat community. The unanimous election results were officially declared by Returning Officer Subhash Sampagavi. Following their successful election, the newly appointed office-bearers paid their respects by offering floral tributes to the society’s founder, Appannagouda Patil, and the late former Minister Umesh Katti.
