In a significant achievement for Karnataka’s ongoing Social and Educational Survey, two taluks within the Chamarajanagar district—Hanur and Yelandur—have proudly announced 100% completion. This extensive survey, spearheaded by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes, aims to gather crucial social and educational data across the state.
The exceptional dedication in Hanur and Yelandur has propelled Chamarajanagar district to the forefront, making it the top performer statewide with an impressive overall completion rate of 98.21%.
Beyond the perfect scores in Hanur and Yelandur, the other three taluks in the district also demonstrated strong commitment. Chamarajanagar taluk itself achieved 99.15% completion, with Gundlupet reaching 97.41% and Kollegal at a commendable 94.66%.
Despite this success, the survey wasn’t without its hurdles. Chamarajanagar district, known for its extensive forest regions, presented unique challenges, particularly in remote villages, ‘podis,’ and hamlets where mobile network coverage – essential for the app-based survey – was often non-existent.
To overcome these connectivity issues, the proactive district administration implemented an innovative ‘camp mode’ strategy. Special survey camps were set up in locations adjacent to these remote, forest-fringe communities where network access was available. Government vehicles were mobilized to transport residents to these camps, ensuring everyone had the opportunity to participate. Rigorous ‘combing operations’ followed to guarantee that no household was inadvertently missed, according to an official statement.
Across other districts, the survey deployment followed standard government guidelines, involving the appointment of dedicated enumerators and supervisors to meticulously conduct the data collection.
The Deputy Commissioner played a pivotal role in overseeing the survey’s execution, assigning nodal officers for each hobli (an administrative division) and conducting daily video conferences. These meetings were crucial for setting clear targets for enumerators and closely monitoring their daily progress, highlighting a commitment to efficiency and thoroughness.
The district administration proudly confirmed that as of October 7, Chamarajanagar district maintained its leading position across the entire state in the survey’s advancement.
In an effort to ensure no resident is left uncounted, the public was informed about dedicated helpline numbers. Families who may have been missed during the initial rounds were encouraged to contact the Deputy Commissioner’s control room at 08226-223160/161/163 or mobile number 9740942901 to provide their details. Special enumerators will then be dispatched to complete their survey. These helplines are also available for any general queries or concerns regarding the survey process.
