The Udupi District Amateur Cycling Association (UDACA) made a phenomenal debut at the 16th Karnataka State Level Road Cycling Competition in Belagavi, earning a gold and a bronze medal. Their exceptional performance also led to three of their talented cyclists being selected for the highly anticipated national-level Road Cycling Competition.
According to K. Gururaj, UDACA’s President and coach, Gliona D’Souza showcased remarkable skill, securing the gold medal in the fiercely contested women’s open category. Rising star Hardik Rai also impressed, claiming a bronze medal in the men’s under-23 division. Both Gliona and Hardik have been selected to proudly represent Karnataka at the National-level Road Cycling Competition, set to take place in Orissa this November.

In addition to Gliona and Hardik, Dr. Gururaj confirmed that Neel D’Souza also earned a spot to compete at the National-level Road Cycling Competition in the men’s under-23 category. The entire UDACA team, including Srinidhi Urala, Deepak Kumar, Shubha, Darshil, and Joshua Fernandes, also delivered commendable performances, attracting significant attention despite the intense competition.

Further solidifying his rising status, Hardik Rai has also been honored with the opportunity to represent Karnataka at the National MTB Cycling Competition, scheduled for later this month in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh.
The team received invaluable support from Association President and coach Dr. Gururaj, along with team manager and vice president Syed Mustafa Hasani, and treasurer and sports coordinator Deepak Kumar, all of whom were present at the awards ceremony.
Distinguished guests at the awards ceremony included MLC Vivek Rao Patil, State Cycling Association President G.V. Patil, and Secretary Sreeshaila M. Kurani, who joined in celebrating the cyclists’ achievements.
