The exclusion of Alappuzha district from the Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) has triggered widespread protests. MP Kodikunnil Suresh vehemently condemned this decision, labeling it a grave injustice to the hardworking farmers of the region.
In a strongly worded statement, the Mavelikara MP highlighted Alappuzha’s pivotal role in India’s agricultural economy. He asserted that the district’s omission from the list of 100 beneficiaries under the PMDDKY, recently unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, clearly demonstrates the Union government’s anti-farmer stance. Suresh emphasized that for farmers in the Kuttanad and Onattukara regions, who constantly battle devastating floods and crop losses due to unpredictable climate change, this scheme represented a beacon of hope. Yet, he criticized the Central government for allowing political motives to overshadow the genuine needs of these farmers, leading to profound disappointment.
Suresh further revealed that he had persistently lobbied the NITI Aayog and other high-ranking Central government officials to secure Alappuzha’s inclusion in the vital scheme. He passionately argued that the lives of Kuttanad farmers, who bravely continue their agricultural endeavors despite recurring floods, saline water intrusion, escalating cultivation expenses, and dwindling yields, could have been dramatically improved by the PMDDKY. However, he lamented that the BJP government’s political agenda ultimately disregarded their plight.
