A horrific industrial accident at a power plant in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district has claimed the lives of four workers and left six others critically injured after a lift suffered a catastrophic collapse. The incident occurred at the RKM Powergen Private Limited plant in Ucchpinda village, Dabhra area, on Tuesday night, October 7, 2025.
Sakti Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma confirmed that ten individuals were in the industrial lift when it plummeted approximately 40 feet to the ground. Emergency services swiftly responded, transporting all victims to Jindal Fortis Hospital in the neighboring Raigarh district. By Wednesday morning, October 8, 2025, four workers had tragically succumbed to their injuries, while the remaining six are currently hospitalized, with four listed in critical but stable condition.
Police are in the process of registering a First Information Report (FIR) and intend to record statements from the survivors as soon as their medical condition permits. An industrial inspector has also been summoned to conduct a thorough safety audit, aiming to identify any negligence that may have contributed to this devastating accident.
Initial reports indicate that the lift, designed for a capacity of approximately 2,000 kg, had recently undergone maintenance. This tragedy marks the second significant industrial accident in Chhattisgarh within a mere fortnight; just on September 26, 2025, a structural collapse at Godavari Power and Ispat Limited resulted in six fatalities and an equal number of injuries, raising serious concerns about industrial safety standards in the region.
