The Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park (SVZP) in Tirupati is mourning the loss of a beloved resident, Kusha, a male jaguar who sadly passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. The magnificent fifteen-year-old feline suffered severe injuries during an unfortunate incident where he fell from a tree inside his habitat.
Despite the immediate and valiant efforts of the park’s veterinary team, Kusha’s condition deteriorated, and he succumbed to his injuries. A subsequent post-mortem examination, conducted by specialists from Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU), confirmed the cause of death as hypervolemic shock and asphyxia, resulting from the jaguar becoming entangled in the tree branches. The passing of Kusha deeply affected the zoo staff, who gathered to bid him a poignant and warm farewell as he was laid to rest within the zoo premises.
