A volatile situation unfolded at the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) campus in Hyderabad on Tuesday evening, October 7, 2025, after a pro-Palestine solidarity rally sparked a direct confrontation between opposing student factions.
The incident began around 6:15 p.m. when approximately 100 students, led by representatives including Vikas, Deena, Shaheen, Aardhra, and Noor, organized a rally within the university grounds. This demonstration proceeded without official university permission. During the rally, students loudly chanted slogans expressing solidarity with Palestine and criticism of Israel. They prominently displayed Palestinian flags and affixed posters, emblazoned with “EFLU for Palestine,” to the walls of the campus canteen.
However, the peaceful demonstration quickly escalated when a second group of about 30 students, led by Abhishek and Sumith from a different student organization, intervened. They openly challenged the posters and attempted to remove them, leading to a heated exchange of words and a physical scuffle between the two groups. Both sides engaged in vocal slogan-chanting, intensifying the already tense atmosphere.
The escalating situation necessitated immediate police intervention. Law enforcement officials arrived promptly and managed to de-escalate the conflict, bringing the campus environment back under control. Following a formal complaint lodged by the EFLU registrar, the Osmania University police have initiated legal proceedings, registering cases against both involved student groups. A thorough investigation into the matter is now in progress.
