Malayalam cinema’s beloved superstar, Mohanlal, who also holds the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army, was lauded on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, by Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi in New Delhi. The esteemed actor received a commendation for his significant contributions to society and his enduring connection with the Armed Forces. This recognition comes shortly after he was honored with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
Lieutenant Colonel (Honorary) Mohanlal was first granted his honorary rank in the Territorial Army in May 2009. Expressing his gratitude, he described the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card as a profound “honor” and a “great gesture” from the military community he has proudly served for the past 16 years.

Addressing the media post-event, the versatile actor affirmed his continuous efforts to support the Army and contribute to civilian welfare.
Mohanlal revealed that his discussion with the Army Chief included exploring ways to enhance the efficiency of Territorial Army battalions and broader initiatives for national development. He hinted at “bigger plans to come” from their meeting.
When questioned about future roles depicting the armed forces, Mr. Mohanlal noted his extensive past work in such films.
With an illustrious career spanning more than four decades, Mohanlal is also a proud recipient of the Padma Shri, awarded in 2001, and the Padma Bhushan, conferred in 2019.
