A somber incident unfolded near Banaswadi Railway Station on Tuesday afternoon (October 7, 2025), where a 22-year-old student lost his life instantly after being hit by a train.
The deceased has been identified as Shashi Kumar G., a student enrolled at Presidency University in Yelahanka. Originally from Veerannapalya, he had been residing with his uncle within the city.
The Byappanahalli Railway Police have registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) regarding the case. Officials stated that the location where Shashi Kumar attempted to cross the tracks presented significant dangers, featuring a sharp curve and obscured by thick bushes. It is believed he was hurrying and did not perceive the high-speed train approaching.
Initial findings from the investigation suggest that the student’s awareness of the oncoming train might have been hampered by the track’s curve and the surrounding foliage. Furthermore, police are exploring the possibility that he was wearing earphones, which could have prevented him from hearing the train’s sounds.
Authorities are continuing their investigation based on a complaint filed by the locopilot, and they await the post-mortem examination report to ascertain if any foul play was involved in this tragic incident.
