Guntur Municipal Commissioner Puli Srinivasulu has issued a stern directive for the immediate removal of all road and drainage encroachments throughout the city. These illegal structures are severely impeding the natural flow of rainwater and sewage, posing significant risks. During his recent inspection on Monday, covering areas like Pattabhipuram Main Road, Amaravati Road, and Vijayapuri Colony, he personally instructed town planning officials to encourage voluntary removal of these obstructions. However, he made it clear that if structures are not cleared willingly, the corporation will not hesitate to take decisive action.
Srinivasulu expressed strong frustration upon discovering recurring encroachments, particularly highlighting a site near Hindu Pharmacy College on Amaravati Road where illegal constructions had reappeared three times despite previous removals. This blatant disregard prompted him to order a thorough departmental inquiry and mandate strict disciplinary action against any negligent staff. He sternly criticized both town planning and sanitation officials, citing their apparent negligence in addressing persistent public complaints about waterlogging and flooding that plague numerous city wards.
In light of ongoing rainfall, the Commissioner also issued a crucial rain alert, urging residents in vulnerable low-lying areas to remain highly vigilant. He instructed engineering teams to prepare pumping motors for rapidly clearing any stagnant water and to guarantee unobstructed drainage around key culverts, particularly at critical junctions like the three bridges, Kankaragunta RUB, Ring Road, and Chuttugunta Centre. Furthermore, officials were ordered to stay on-site until the rain subsides and to ensure that drinking water supplies remain uninterrupted throughout this period.
For any rain-related concerns or assistance, citizens are encouraged to contact the Guntur Municipal Corporation’s 24-hour helpline at 0863-2345103.
