A disturbing incident on Monday, October 6, 2025, has led to the arrest of a police head constable in Thoothukudi. He stands accused of using a penknife to injure a teenager.
According to police reports, 30-year-old Sivanesan, a head constable from the Eral police station, was waiting at the Eral bus stand with his family. His attention was drawn to a teenager repeatedly riding a motorbike at high speed through the crowded area. Concerned for public safety, Sivanesan, who was off-duty and in plain clothes, intervened, asking the young rider to slow down.
The teenager, unaware he was addressing a police officer, responded with verbal abuse and threats. This escalation reportedly agitated Sivanesan, who then used a penknife from his bike keychain to slash the teen, causing a stomach injury. The injured teen received immediate first aid at a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Following the altercation, a case was promptly registered against Sivanesan. He was arrested later that Monday evening and has since been placed in judicial custody.
