The Medical Education Department has taken decisive action, suspending three doctors for their alleged involvement in a bribery scheme. These doctors, acting as part of the National Medical Commission’s (NMC) inspection team, are accused of accepting illicit payments to provide positive inspection reports for a medical institution.
The suspended individuals include Dr. Chaitra M.S., an associate professor in the Department of Anatomy at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College and Research Institute in Bengaluru; Dr. Manjappa C.N., a professor and head of the Department of Orthopaedics at Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences; and Dr. Ashok Shelke, an assistant professor in the Department of Community Medicine at Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences.
Mohammad Mohsin, the department’s principal secretary, formally issued the suspension orders.
This disciplinary action follows the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)’s registration of a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the bribery case. The CBI informed the department of its findings through an official email, prompting the immediate suspension of the three doctors in accordance with established service rules.
Dr. Chaitra, Dr. Manjappa, and Dr. Shelke are specifically implicated in accepting bribes to provide a favorable inspection report for Chhattisgarh’s Rawatpura Government Institute of Medical Science and Research. The CBI has already taken them into custody for questioning. After a thorough review of all evidence, Mr. Mohsin ordered their suspension.
