Kerala police have confirmed their inability to register a formal case against Union Minister of State for Tourism, Suresh Gopi, concerning allegations of fraudulent voter enrollment in Thrissur. The complaint, lodged by former MP T.N. Prathapan, claimed that Minister Gopi and his brother used fabricated documents to illegally add their names to the Thrissur voter list.
Law enforcement officials clarified that Mr. Prathapan, the complainant, was unable to provide the necessary documentary evidence to substantiate his allegations. In the absence of such concrete proof, the police stated, they are currently unable to proceed with formal charges against the Minister.
The investigation has reached a standstill because crucial documents requested from both the district administration and the Election Commission have not been furnished, despite formal requests. This information was detailed in a report submitted by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to the Thrissur City Police Commissioner. The police also noted that Mr. Prathapan retains the option to approach the court to obtain the required documents and seek further legal action.
However, Mr. Prathapan has stated that he has not yet received the official police report. He indicated that he would decide on his next course of action only after a thorough review of the report once it is in his possession.
