HSBC India is set to significantly expand its presence, with plans to open new branches in 20 additional cities across the country, stretching from Amritsar to Thiruvananthapuram. The bank aims to solidify its reputation as a premier provider of banking services, particularly targeting high-net-worth individuals.
This ambitious expansion is driven by HSBC’s belief in India’s growing aspirations, increasing global mobility, and rising affluence, which are expected to fuel demand for its services in these new markets. The Reserve Bank of India granted the necessary licenses earlier this year. The rollout will begin with four branches opening by December, followed by another four by June 2026. Sandeep Batra, Head of International Wealth and Premier Banking at HSBC India, emphasized the bank’s commitment: “The bank focuses on what it does best – serving globally-minded companies and individuals.”
Batra assured that all new facilities would maintain the same high standards of service, ensuring consistency as HSBC grows beyond its current network of 26 branches across 14 cities. Currently, Mumbai has nine branches, Delhi three, Bengaluru and Kolkata two each, and Noida, Ahmedabad, Pune, Kochi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Gurugram, Coimbatore, and Chandigarh each host one.
Beyond Amritsar and Thiruvananthapuram, HSBC has secured licenses for branches in Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Dehradun, Faridabad, Indore, Jalandhar, Kanpur, Ludhiana, Lucknow, Mysuru, Nagpur, Nashik, Navi Mumbai, Patna, Rajkot, Surat, Vadodara, and Visakhapatnam. The core focus will remain on exceptional service. “Whether you step into this new branch, my branch in Delhi, or soon, our new location in Lucknow, you will experience the same premium service and global access – even the coffee will be consistent,” Batra remarked. He made these comments during the inauguration of a new 5,600 sq ft HSBC branch in Hitech City, Hyderabad, which was relocated from Raj Bhavan Road.
HSBC’s Growing Presence in Hyderabad
HSBC’s workforce in India currently stands at 45,000, a figure that includes employees at its Global Capability Centre (GCC), which began operations in Hyderabad last year. This number is expected to rise further with the bank’s expanding footprint. The new GCC is conveniently located within the same building as the recently relocated Hitech City branch, alongside an additional 12,000 sq ft corporate office. Batra underscored Hyderabad’s importance, stating, “Hyderabad holds immense strategic value for us.”
