Following a remarkably hot Sunday, where temperatures reached a high of 36.1 degrees Celsius in Meenambakkam and 35.6 degrees Celsius in Nungambakkam, several parts of Chennai and its surrounding areas experienced welcome rainfall. Localities such as Nungambakkam, Tambaram, Meenambakkam, and Ennore all reported showers.
Data from the Regional Meteorological Centre indicated significant rainfall by Sunday evening. Meenambakkam recorded 22.8 mm, Nungambakkam 13.7 mm, and Tiruttani 7 mm by 5:30 p.m. Further measurements until 7:30 p.m. showed Ranipet receiving 35 mm, Meenambakam ISRO 18 mm, VIT Chennai 5.5 mm, Ennore port 2 mm, Jaya Engineering College in Tiruvallur 1 mm, Chembarambakkam 18 mm, YMCA Nandanam 15 mm, Poonamallee 9 mm, NIOT in Pallikaranai 7.9 mm, Anna University 7.5 mm, and West Tambaram 4.5 mm.
Looking ahead to Monday, the meteorological department forecasts maximum temperatures hovering around 33-34 degrees Celsius with partly cloudy skies. Residents should also anticipate one or two spells of light to moderate rain, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, in various parts of the region.
