In a timely decision preceding the upcoming Jubilee Hills Assembly by-elections, the Telangana government, in partnership with the State Waqf Board (TGWB), has officially cleared the way for allocating a 2,500 square yard plot for a Muslim graveyard in the area.
This allocation directly addresses a pressing need that local residents have repeatedly brought to the attention of various political parties and candidates vying for the Assembly seat during the election campaign.
According to the official proceedings of the TGWB, the local Muslim community had submitted numerous petitions requesting the provision of land for a graveyard. The board confirmed that the designated plot for the cemetery is part of Masjid-e-Ghairabad in Shaikpet, which is already recognized as a gazette-notified Waqf property.
The announcement was jointly made by Hyderabad in-charge minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Minister for Minorities Welfare Adluri Laxman, and other leaders, including TGWB Chairman Syed Azmatullah Husseni. They confirmed the earmarking of 2,500 square yards for the graveyard from a larger 1-acre 5-gunta parcel of Waqf land. Mr. Husseni also indicated that efforts are currently underway to secure an additional land parcel in Erragadda for similar use as a graveyard.
During a recent public gathering, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president and Hyderabad parliamentarian Asaduddin Owaisi noted that he too had raised this important issue with the government.
