In a significant ruling, the Nandyal district court on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, sentenced an individual to seven years of imprisonment. The conviction stems from charges of persistent harassment for dowry and abetting his wife’s suicide.
Investigations revealed that Rajeswari, a resident of Chintalayapalli in Kolimigundla mandal, was married to K. Krishnaiah from Chagallu in Anantapur district. After 12 years of their marriage, Krishnaiah, along with his uncle Narayana, subjected Rajeswari to severe physical and mental abuse, relentlessly demanding more dowry. The escalating harassment tragically culminated on March 4, 2022, when Rajeswari returned to her father’s home and took her own life by consuming hair dye. She succumbed to her injuries on the same day, prompting the registration of a case.
Nandyal Principal Assistant Sessions Judge Thangamani delivered the verdict, finding Krishnaiah guilty of both dowry harassment and abetment to suicide. He was sentenced to concurrent prison terms of three years and seven years respectively, in addition to a fine of ₹4,000.
