The Confederation of University Employees’ Organisations (CUEO) is set to host a significant ‘Higher Education Protection Week’ from October 8 to 15. This initiative is a concerted effort to bring forth critical demands, notably calling for an immediate halt to the Chancellor’s alleged interventions that members believe are disrupting the vital higher education sector.
The week-long campaign will highlight several other pressing issues. These include urgent calls for adequate financial backing for universities, the prompt commencement of the 12th Pay Revision for staff, and the immediate release of all pending dearness allowance arrears. CUEO also advocates for abandoning the National Pension System (NPS) in favor of reinstating the traditional statutory pension scheme. Furthermore, the organization aims to draw attention to what it describes as ‘flawed’ economic policies from the Central government, which they argue are negatively impacting the State’s financial stability.
The campaign is scheduled to be formally inaugurated by CUEO president P.K. Biju at Kerala University on October 8. Following the inauguration, a series of programs and events will take place across all university campuses throughout the State, reinforcing their collective voice for change, according to a recent press release.
