Mysuru recently hosted a significant event marking the 56th anniversary of Sudharma, the world’s unique Sanskrit daily. The celebration featured the launch of a special anniversary edition of the newspaper, alongside a new book, ‘The Saga of Sudharma’. This insightful work, originally penned by journalist Kudli Gururaj, has been translated into English by S. Nataraj, a respected lecturer.
The commemorative function, held at BSS Vidyodaya in Krishnamurthypuram, saw the presence of several distinguished guests. Among them were Vijay Sankeshwar, a former Member of Parliament and the visionary founder of VRL Logistics, as well as H.V. Nagaraja Rao, the honorary chief editor of Sudharma. Also attending were K. Shivakumar, an MLC, and Jayalakshmi, the current editor of the daily, alongside other notable personalities.
During his address, Mr. Shivakumar passionately stressed the vital need for publications like Sudharma to endure. He highlighted that these newspapers serve as invaluable torchbearers of culture, arguing that their preservation is a shared responsibility, falling not just on the management and readership, but crucially, on the government as well.
Kudli Gururaj, the original author, had meticulously documented Sudharma‘s journey over five decades in a work published approximately two years prior. He announced that his book, ‘The Saga of Sudharma’, now available in English thanks to Mr. Nataraj’s translation, is soon expected to be translated into French, further extending its reach globally.
‘The Saga of Sudharma’ is lauded as an extraordinary chronicle, detailing the five-decade-long journey of the world’s only daily newspaper published in Sanskrit.
