In a significant ruling on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, the Nandyal district court delivered a seven-year prison sentence to an individual found guilty of dowry harassment and abetting his wife’s suicide. This judgment underscores the severe consequences for such heinous acts.
Police reports reveal the tragic details of the case: Rajeswari, originally from Chintalayapalli in Kolimigundla mandal, was married to K. Krishnaiah of Chagallu, Anantapur district. After 12 years of their marriage, Krishnaiah, along with his uncle Narayana, began a relentless campaign of physical and mental torment against Rajeswari, demanding more dowry. The escalating harassment culminated on March 4, 2022, when Rajeswari, seeking refuge at her father’s home, tragically took her own life by ingesting hair dye. She passed away on the same day, prompting the immediate registration of a case.
Principal Assistant Sessions Judge Thangamani of Nandyal found Krishnaiah guilty on both counts: dowry harassment and abetment to suicide. The court imposed concurrent sentences of three years and seven years respectively, along with a fine of ₹4,000, bringing a measure of justice to this distressing incident.
