Nainar Nagenthran, the President of BJP Tamil Nadu, announced on Tuesday that he will begin a comprehensive statewide tour from October. The party has already established a dedicated committee to finalize the details of this ambitious campaign, with the full itinerary expected to be unveiled shortly.
This announcement followed a pivotal core committee meeting of the BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit, convened in Akkarai, just outside Chennai. The gathering saw the attendance of several prominent party figures, including B.L. Santhosh, the party’s National General Secretary (Organisation), alongside former State presidents such as Pon. Radhakrishnan, Tamilisai Soundararajan, and K. Annamalai.
Addressing reporters post-meeting, Nagenthran revealed that the leaders had engaged in extensive, day-long discussions. Their primary focus was strategizing for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state next year and meticulously planning how to fortify the party’s foundational structure at all levels.
When pressed by journalists about potential discussions concerning the re-entry of the T.T.V. Dhinakaran-led Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam and former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam – both of whom recently parted ways with the National Democratic Alliance – Nagenthran firmly stated that alliance matters were not on the agenda for this meeting.
He further clarified that the BJP intends to extend invitations to AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami to attend the inaugural event of his tour, and similarly, second-tier leaders from the Dravidian party would be invited to participate in various segments across the state.
Echoing these sentiments, BJP spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy highlighted that the discussions primarily revolved around effectively communicating the Central BJP government’s welfare schemes to the populace. Additionally, the agenda included reviewing law and order situations and other critical issues pertaining to the DMK government, alongside strategies for fostering stronger collaboration with alliance partners.
