Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has urged a comprehensive overhaul of India’s aviation sector, calling for technology and regulations to be brought in line with global best practices, especially within air traffic control.
Speaking at the annual civil aviation event hosted by the Air Traffic Controllers Guild of India, Mr. Gadkari highlighted the immense potential of the sector. He noted a remarkable expansion in the number of airports, which has grown from 75 to 150, and emphasized the sector’s impressive 22% growth rate in recent years.
He specifically pointed out Nagpur’s strategic location at the country’s heart, suggesting its potential to become India’s central air traffic control hub.
The Minister stressed the urgency of replacing outdated rules with modern, globally compliant regulations, reiterating that safety must remain paramount. Such reforms, he believes, are essential for driving progress in the aviation industry.
Gadkari underscored the vital role of air traffic controllers in realizing the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). He acknowledged the inherent risks in their profession and praised their dedication to maintaining safety across the aviation landscape.
