The stage is now set for a major leap forward at Infopark Kochi, as the Kerala government’s Electronics and Information Technology department has officially given its green light for the park’s ambitious third-phase expansion. This approval paves the way for Infopark to develop over 300 acres into a vibrant, integrated IT township.
Under the terms of the government order, Infopark will soon finalize a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA). This partnership is crucial for kicking off preliminary work on the 300-acre site, including essential tasks like conducting feasibility studies, engaging with stakeholders, undertaking initial surveys, crafting a comprehensive master plan, and preparing detailed project reports.
Already, the GCDA has shown its commitment by deploying a dedicated team this month to begin the groundwork for land pooling. This move follows a government directive issued last year, officially entrusting the GCDA with the responsibility for this significant land acquisition process.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan shared the exciting news on Facebook, revealing that this third phase is envisioned as a cutting-edge, artificial intelligence-driven integrated IT township. This modern hub will boast an impressive 20 million sq. ft. of dedicated IT infrastructure, alongside top-tier educational institutions, advanced healthcare facilities, and sustainable waste management systems. Crucially, this expansion is projected to create a remarkable two lakh new job opportunities. Adding to the momentum, Mr. Vijayan also mentioned that efforts are already in motion for the land acquisition of Infopark’s future fourth phase.
This timely approval for the third phase arrives as Infopark’s first two phases have reached full capacity, leaving over 100 companies eagerly waiting for available space. Both GCDA and Infopark are tasked with presenting a comprehensive proposal to the government within one year, following the successful completion of the land pooling formalities.
To facilitate this massive undertaking, Infopark is urged to swiftly finalize its bylaw amendments and transition into a corporate entity. This new company structure will provide the necessary legal framework for Infopark to effectively own, develop, and manage this extensive commercial project, and to confidently engage in contractual agreements for the ambitious land pooling scheme.
