Kishor Makwana, the esteemed Chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), recently visited Karur on October 3, 2025. His visit was specifically to offer condolences and support to the families impacted by the devastating stampede that occurred on September 27. This tragic incident claimed the lives of 41 people during a public gathering for actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president Vijay.
During his visit, Mr. Makwana personally toured the incident site and engaged with ten families from affected localities such as Emoor Pudur, Uppidamangalam, and Aravakurichi. Following these heartfelt interactions, he convened an important review meeting with District Collector M. Thangavel and other senior officials at the Collectorate.
Addressing reporters, Mr. Makwana confirmed that the Commission has formally requested a comprehensive report on the stampede from the district administration. He emphasized that the Commission’s subsequent investigation will be guided by the findings of this report. Highlighting the dire circumstances of many victims, he stated, “The families we met are predominantly from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. We have urged the State government to provide them with appropriate aid, including vital employment support.”
