Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to inaugurate the state-of-the-art Navi Mumbai International Airport on October 8th. This significant event marks a major advancement for air travel in the region.
Just recently, on September 30th, the airport secured its crucial aerodrome licence from the aviation safety regulatory body, DGCA, paving the way for its impending launch.
The ambitious project is a multi-phase development, spearheaded by Navi Mumbai International Airport Limited. The Adani Group holds a substantial 74% stake in this venture, with the remaining 26% being managed by CIDCO, the Maharashtra government’s planning and development authority.
According to Vijay Singhal, CIDCO Vice Chairman and Managing Director, who shared details at a briefing on Saturday (October 4, 2025), the Prime Minister’s inauguration ceremony is scheduled for 2:40 PM on October 8th. Following this, the airport is expected to commence full operations by December.
The Navi Mumbai International Airport, designated with the airport code ‘NMI’, is set to become the second major aviation hub serving the bustling Mumbai Metropolitan Region, significantly enhancing connectivity.
Upon its full completion, this impressive facility is projected to handle an astounding 90 million passengers and manage 3.2 million metric tonnes of cargo annually. These capabilities will establish it as one of Asia’s most pivotal and largest aviation centres.
