The Coffee Board of India has recently inaugurated a special Indian Coffee House Kiosk at its Bengaluru headquarters. This innovative facility is dedicated to providing comprehensive, structured training aimed at significantly boosting women’s empowerment within the vibrant coffee industry.
This new kiosk, an initiative under the Coffee Board’s Atal Incubation Centre – Central Coffee Research Institute, Center for Entrepreneurship Development (AIC–CCRI–CED), is designed to foster entrepreneurship among women. It offers hands-on training across various crucial aspects of the coffee sector, including cultivation, processing, and retail operations, according to official statements from the Coffee Board.
The ambitious program is set to empower 400 women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs), who are registered under the National Livelihood Mission. These participants will receive intensive training to become ‘Master Trainers’ in essential coffee brewing and café management skills. The vision is for these Master Trainers to then extend their knowledge, ultimately empowering an additional 100,000 SHG members over the next year, with continuous backing from AIC–CCRI–CED and its collaborative partners.
During the kiosk’s grand opening, Coffee Board Chairperson M.J. Dinesh underscored the upcoming centenary celebrations of the esteemed Central Coffee Research Institute in Balehonnur, highlighting the rich legacy and future potential of India’s coffee sector.
In a related event, to mark International Coffee Day, the Coffee Board, in partnership with the Specialty Coffee Association of India (SCAI), organized a captivating ‘Walk with Coffee’ initiative. This celebratory walkathon, stretching from M.G. Road to the Coffee Board office, saw enthusiastic participation from approximately 400 coffee lovers, raising awareness and celebrating the beloved beverage.
