A dream came true for the holder of ticket number TH 577825, which has just been announced as the grand winner of the 2025 Kerala Thiruvonam bumper lottery, taking home an astonishing first prize of ₹25 crore. This life-altering ticket was sold by a local lottery agent, P. Thankarajan (agent no. T-2356).
The Thiruvonam Bumper lottery experienced unprecedented success this year, breaking all previous sales records. According to Lotteries Director Mithun Premraj, an incredible 7.5 million tickets were printed, and all but one defective ticket were sold. Each ticket, offering a chance at immense wealth, was priced at ₹500.
Beyond the grand jackpot, the lottery also offered a substantial second prize of ₹1 crore each, distributed among 20 fortunate winners, totaling a generous ₹20 crore.
The highly anticipated draw was officially inaugurated by Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal at Gorky Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Prior to the main event, rigorous trial runs were conducted to ensure fairness. Minister Balagopal highlighted the significant economic impact of the Kerala lottery, noting that a substantial portion of its revenue is allocated to prize money and agent commissions, supporting the livelihoods of over 2 lakh individuals across the state.
Following the winner’s identification and completion of all necessary formalities, the Lotteries department will swiftly transfer the prize money directly to their bank account, after appropriate deductions for the agent’s commission and applicable taxes. Winners are also responsible for remitting any surcharge and cess on their winnings. Recognizing that many lottery recipients might be unfamiliar with complex taxation rules and prudent investment strategies, the State Lotteries Department proactively organized a specialized workshop for prize winners in 2023.
Originally slated for September 27, the draw had to be postponed due to severe heavy rainfall across the state, alongside significant Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms that increased the tax on lottery tickets from 28% to a higher 40%.
Announcing the Next Big Chance: Pooja Bumper Lottery Launched
During the same event on Saturday, Mr. Balagopal also unveiled the new Pooja Bumper Lottery. This upcoming lottery offers an enticing first prize of ₹12 crore, with tickets priced at a more accessible ₹300. The draw for the Pooja Bumper is scheduled for November 22.
The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including MLA Antony Raju and several high-ranking officials from the Lotteries department, such as Director Mithun Premraj.
