On October 3, a devastating incident occurred on the eastern outskirts of Bengaluru, near Shivanapura, claiming the lives of two sisters. They were traveling home on their scooter when a container truck collided with them from behind, according to local police reports.
The victims were identified as Shwetha, 22, and Shailaja, 24, both residents of Hosakote. Authorities stated that the sisters had been visiting a temple in Kaiwara and were on their way back when the fatal accident transpired around 1:45 p.m.
While the police acknowledged that the Chintamani-Hosakote highway, where the collision took place, is known for its challenging stretches, they emphasized that the primary cause of this tragedy was the container truck driver’s negligent and dangerous driving.
Shwetha unfortunately died at the scene of the accident. Shailaja, though quickly transported to a nearby private hospital, later succumbed to her severe injuries. The police are actively pursuing the driver of the container truck, who fled the scene.
An investigating officer confirmed that the container truck involved in the accident has been seized. Efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect, who is expected to be arrested shortly.
Charges have been filed against the driver under specific sections of the BNS, including section 281 for rash driving on a public way, and section 106 for causing death through negligence.
