Kerala’s Directorate of General Education (DGE) has unveiled crucial new guidelines, emphasizing the consistent attendance of Scheduled Tribe (ST) students in all public schools throughout the state. This move aims to prevent interruptions in their learning journey, provide them with individualized support, and ultimately fast-track their academic achievements.
A key component of this initiative is the mandatory adoption of the ‘Sampoorna Plus’ mobile application and web portal. Developed by the Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), this digital platform will serve as the primary tool for precisely tracking ST students’ attendance. These new directives stem from recommendations made during a recent State-Level coordination committee meeting, which was dedicated to enhancing the educational outcomes for ST students.
Streamlined Progress Tracking
Every school is now required to fully utilize the ‘Sampoorna Plus’ platform. Beyond just recording attendance, this comprehensive system is designed to generate detailed progress reports for students and enable direct communication with parents through integrated messaging features.
It is now compulsory for class teachers to log the attendance details of all ST students using the ‘Sampoorna Plus’ app or portal. School headteachers are responsible for overseeing and ensuring strict compliance with this new procedure. However, if a school already uses ‘Sampoorna Plus’ for recording the attendance of all its students, a separate entry specifically for ST students is not needed.
Furthermore, schools have been instructed to promptly submit comprehensive data on the total number of days ST students were absent during June, July, August, and September 2025. Moving forward, daily attendance records for these students must be meticulously updated, starting this Friday.
Support and Monitoring
To facilitate a smooth transition and ensure successful implementation, KITE has distributed detailed instructions and a user manual for the ‘Sampoorna Plus’ mobile app and portal. Headteachers and relevant educational officers are tasked with ensuring that ST children consistently attend classes across all schools.
K. Anvar Sadath, CEO of KITE, also announced that a dedicated dashboard will be integrated into the portal, allowing for real-time monitoring of ST student attendance and engagement.
