On Friday, October 3, 2025, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) announced that they have officially provided the autopsy report of the late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg to the High Commission of India.
This handover includes a detailed copy of the autopsy report and the SPF’s initial findings concerning his death, all furnished at the specific request of Indian authorities.
The police statement further cautioned the public against sharing any videos or images related to the incident, emphasizing that ongoing investigations require full cooperation.
In a related development, murder charges were previously filed against two key individuals in connection with Zubeen Garg’s death.
Meanwhile, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Assam police made two more arrests on Thursday, October 2, 2025. Zubeen Garg’s fellow musician, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, and co-singer, Amritprava Mahanta, were taken into custody, bringing the total number of arrests in this case to four.
Previous reports clarified that Zubeen Garg’s death in Singapore occurred during a swimming incident, not while scuba diving as initially speculated.
Munna Prasad Gupta, who serves as the Chief of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and Special DGP for the CID, confirmed that Goswami and Mahanta’s arrests followed several days of intensive interrogation by the SIT/CID.
These arrests come after the CID/SIT had previously apprehended Shyamkanu Mahanta, the primary organizer of the North East India Festival in Singapore, and Siddharth Sharma, Zubeen Garg’s manager, on Wednesday.
Both Mahanta and Sharma were remanded to 14 days of police custody by the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of Kamrup (Metro) district. Furthermore, the CID has upgraded the charges in the registered case, now including a murder section under the BNS Act.
The beloved 52-year-old Assamese music icon tragically passed away on September 19 after a drowning accident in Singapore. His remains were initially flown to Delhi before being repatriated to Guwahati on Sunday morning via a commercial flight.
