Karnataka’s groundbreaking Shakti scheme, a beacon of women’s empowerment, has proudly earned a new prestigious spot in the International Book of Records – World Record of Excellence. This incredible achievement celebrates the issuance of over 500 crore free bus tickets to women since the program’s inception.
This latest world record follows closely on the heels of the scheme’s previous recognition in the Golden Book of World Records, solidifying its impactful journey.
Introduced on June 11, 2023, as the very first of the Congress government’s five core guarantees, the Shakti scheme enables women, including transgender individuals and students, to enjoy free travel on non-premium, state-operated buses across Karnataka.
Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy extended his heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated officers, employees, and labor union leaders of all four State Road Transport Corporations. He lauded their collective efforts, emphasizing their crucial role in making this remarkable feat possible. “This scheme has transformed the lives of women,” he stated, “not just by boosting their economic independence, but also by enhancing their social and professional mobility and opening up new opportunities.”
Minister Reddy highlighted the scheme’s widespread success and profound impact throughout the state. “It fills us with immense pride that the Shakti scheme has once again secured a world record,” he remarked. “My sincerest congratulations go out to all our women passengers who are at the heart of this success.”
