Ten people tragically lost their lives when a tractor-trolley, positioned on a makeshift bridge for the immersion of Durga idols, slipped into a lake in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa district on Thursday evening. The incident occurred around 5 PM, according to Khandwa Superintendent of Police Manoj Rai. Eyewitnesses and rescuers reported that 10 individuals, including minors, drowned. Six of the victims were women. A young girl remains missing, and search efforts are actively underway to find her. Three injured girls have been admitted to the hospital and are receiving treatment.
Local authorities, including the Superintendent of Police and health teams, were present at the site, coordinating rescue and medical efforts. A local resident described the lake as approximately 50 feet deep at the point of the accident, significantly complicating the rescue operation. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his condolences and announced compensation of ₹4 lakh for the families of the deceased, along with assurances for the proper treatment of the injured. He also offered prayers for the swift recovery of those injured and strength for the bereaved families.
