The Thiruvananthapuram chapter of the College of Engineering Trivandrum Alumni Association (CETAAT) has proudly announced celebrated poet and lyricist Sreekumaran Thampi as the inaugural recipient of the Devarajan Award.
This prestigious award, recognizing outstanding contributions to Malayalam film music, includes a cash prize of ₹50,000, a beautifully crafted statuette, and a formal citation.
The felicitation ceremony will take place during the sixth annual ‘Devaragam Sandhya’ event, organized by CETAAT, at Tagore Theatre on October 5th, starting at 5:30 p.m.
Since its inception in 2017, CETAAT’s ‘Devaragam Sandhya’ has been a cherished musical evening, dedicated each year to showcasing songs penned by lyricists who collaborated with the legendary G. Devarajan.
This year’s event holds special significance as it commemorates the 50th death anniversary of Vayalar Rama Varma, featuring a soulful rendition of songs from the iconic Vayalar-Devarajan creative partnership.
The decision to institute the Devarajan Award was made by the alumni association this year. A distinguished three-member jury, chaired by renowned poet, lyricist, and former bureaucrat K. Jayakumar, unanimously chose Mr. Thampi for this pioneering honor.
