The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) is embarking on a significant expansion of its healthcare infrastructure, with ambitious plans to establish a new medical college in Amaravati, the capital region of Andhra Pradesh. This initiative is part of a larger nationwide project to construct twenty new medical colleges across various states, as confirmed by T. Renuka Prasad, Insurance Commissioner for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and ESIC South Zone in-charge.
Mr. Renuka Prasad revealed that the Andhra Pradesh government has already allocated a generous 20-acre plot for the Amaravati medical college, with construction slated to commence in the near future. Following this, the tender process for the remaining 19 medical colleges and associated development work throughout other states will be initiated promptly.
Currently, ESIC operates an extensive network in Andhra Pradesh, including 79 dispensaries, four dedicated hospitals, four dispensaries-cum-branch offices, and a corporate hospital situated in Rajahmundry. To further bolster its services, the corporation has also forged partnerships with 72 hospitals for secondary care and 35 facilities for specialized super-specialty treatments.
Beyond the existing facilities, ESIC is proactively proposing the construction of approximately ten additional hospitals within Andhra Pradesh to provide superior healthcare services to employees. These new hospitals include a substantial 400-bedded facility in Visakhapatnam, and 100-bedded hospitals planned for strategic locations such as Atchutapuram in Anakapalli district, Guntur, Nellore, and Sri City in Tirupati district.
Furthermore, smaller 30-bedded hospitals are earmarked for construction in Eluru, Bhimavaram, Chittoor, and Hindupur. Mr. Renuka Prasad emphasized that these new medical establishments are expected to become operational soon, and ESIC will undertake a comprehensive recruitment drive to staff them with qualified doctors, nursing professionals, paramedics, and other essential personnel.
