In a dramatic incident that unfolded on Thursday morning, Koothuparamba MLA K.P. Mohanan faced a hostile crowd and was reportedly attacked and manhandled by local residents in Panoor, Kannur, Kerala. The confrontation erupted during a heated protest concerning a persistent garbage problem, specifically linked to the nearby Kariyad Thanal Dialysis Centre.
The volatile situation escalated quickly as the MLA arrived to inaugurate the Peringathur anganwadi, an event that became the backdrop for the community’s pent-up frustration.
For months, residents, including a significant number of women, had been tirelessly protesting the alleged discharge of untreated waste from the dialysis centre directly into their neighborhood. They claimed that despite numerous complaints and direct appeals to the MLA, their concerns had been continuously ignored, and no meaningful action had been taken.
The long-standing grievances boiled over into a physical altercation when the demonstrators directly confronted the MLA, resulting in the reported assault.
Authorities have since deployed police personnel to the area to prevent any further escalation and maintain law and order following the incident.
