Thousands of toddlers across Kerala joyfully embraced their first formal steps into the world of learning on Vijayadashami. This auspicious day, known as Vidyarambham, witnessed a touching display of cultural tradition and educational initiation.
Across the state, prominent personalities—including celebrated writers, thoughtful intellectuals, influential politicians, and respected elderly figures—graciously presided over ceremonies, guiding young children as they wrote their very first letters. These heartfelt initiations took place in various significant locations, such as temples, vibrant cultural institutions, and bustling newspaper offices.
A notable moment captured the essence of the day: Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar tenderly guided a child’s hand in writing during a Vidyarambham ceremony at Raj Bhavan, a poignant scene for all observers.
At Raj Bhavan, Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar personally led several children in writing their inaugural words – ‘Hari Sree’ – on platters adorned with rice grains, moments deeply cherished by their accompanying parents.
A public statement from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, shared on social media, emphasized that the state’s progress is fundamentally rooted in its strong learning and skill development initiatives. He highlighted how the interventions by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government have significantly fortified the education sector in Kerala. He warmly welcomed all children embarking on their educational journey this Vijayadashami, extending his heartfelt best wishes to them and their families.
The Leader of the Opposition, V. D. Satheesan, also hosted a Vidyarambham ceremony at his residence in Paravoor, Ernakulam, continuing the cherished tradition.
Union Minister Suresh Gopi officiated the Vidyarambham ceremony at the revered Arappura Easwari Amman Saraswati Temple in Vattiyurkavu, Thiruvananthapuram, marking another significant event.
Ministers from the Left Democratic Front actively participated in Vidyarambham ceremonies held in various regions across Kerala, underlining the widespread importance of the day.
Beyond the simple act of writing, the ceremony carries profound symbolism. It signifies the child’s introduction to the world of speech and hearing, traditionally performed by gently tracing ‘Hari Sree’ on their tongues and whispering sacred words into their ears.
Key centers of these heartwarming festivities included the Thunchan Parambu at Tirur, the Asan Smarakam at Thonnakkal in Thiruvananthapuram, the Saraswathi Mandapam at Poojappura grounds in Thiruvananthapuram, the Dakshina Mookambika Temple in Paravoor, Ernakulam, the Panachikkadu Temple in Kottayam, the Chottanikara Temple in Ernakulam, the Saraswathi Temple at Shangumugham in Thiruvananthapuram, and the Thiruvallakavu temple in Cherpu, Thrissur.
