The Bay of Bengal is brewing a significant weather event as a depression has rapidly intensified into a deep depression, now located approximately 250 kilometers east of Visakhapatnam. This formidable system, centered around latitude 17.7° north and longitude 85.7° east, has been moving relentlessly north-northwestwards at a speed of 17 kmph since Thursday morning.
Weather forecasts indicate a high probability of this deep depression continuing its north-northwestward trajectory. It is expected to make landfall and cross the coasts of Odisha and adjoining Andhra Pradesh between Gopalpur and Paradip sometime during the night of October 2nd.
Residents in several districts should prepare for adverse conditions. The Met Department has issued warnings for moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and squally winds, which could reach speeds of up to 60 kmph. Heavy rainfall is anticipated across Srikakulam, Parvatipuram Manyam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, and Anakapalli districts.
Furthermore, lighter thunderstorms, potentially with lightning and gusty winds up to 40 kmph, along with moderate rainfall, are predicted for a broader area. This includes Kakinada, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, NTR, Krishna, Guntur, Palnadu, Bapatla, Prakasam, Nellore districts, and Yanam. Authorities urge coastal communities and those in the path of the storm to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
